Cathey’s Sewing & Vacuum – History
Cathey’s was founded by Friou Cathey, Sr. and his wife Myrtle in 1954 on Stone Avenue in Tucson, Arizona. In 1958 the business moved to Campbell Avenue. Originally, Cathey’s only sold vacuums and expanded to the sales and repair of sewing machines in the 1960s. As a family business Friou Jr. and Donny worked with their parents running the store until Donny opened an additional store on Speedway Boulevard in 1978.
Today, Cathey’s has three locations at 5701 E. Speedway, 8700 N. Oracle and 18805 S. I-19 Frontage Rd. Sahuarita. Still a family business, Donny and Janice Cathey own and operate Cathey’s with the assistance of their children Matthew, Troy, Andy, Carly and Geordy. Cathey’s 35 employees also share the family values and tradition started by Friou and Myrtle over 60 years ago. Cathey’s is proud to represent Baby Lock, Bernina, Brother, Janome, Juki, Pfaff, and Viking sewing machines as well as all the top vacuum brands. The skilled educators and mechanics at Cathey’s offer incomparable sales, support and repair on all brands of sewing machines, portable vacuum cleaners, central vacuums. In addition Cathey’s is proud to offer Southern Arizona high quality home theater systems.
